r. John W. Settle was the first Radiologist in Olympia. He sent Louise Adams, the Chief technologist in his Pennsylvania practice, to Olympia in December of 1945. Her task was to set up a radiology office, purchase equipment, and begin offering services.

Dr. Settle joined her in March of 1946. Soon after, Dr. William Mikkelsen joined the practice in 1963. Together, they provided diagnostic and theraputic radiologic services in four counties; to five hospitals and two clinics.

Dr. Settle soon retired, and in 1973 Dr. Gary Yim joined Bill Mikkelsen and officially launched South Sound Radiology (SSR).

Today, SSR is a stable group of thirteen diagnostic Radiologists, still located in the scenic city of Olympia. Olympia is situated 45 miles south of Seattle, at the southernmost tip of Puget Sound and is the gateway to the Olympic Peninsula.
