PACS is a system of digital image production, viewing, storage, and dispersal.  It obviates the need for x-ray film and makes it possible for multiple physicians to have access to the same diagnostic imaging study simultaneously over networks.

    PACS improves diagnostic accuracy, enhances productivity, and makes diagnostic images and reports quickly available to the entire medical enterprise.  Using secure networks it forms part of the patient's electronic medical record.
